MAP CITY RECORDS DISCOGRAPHY
MAURICE WOODRUFF
Astrological and Clairvoyant Predictions (Map City LP 3000 series) 1969
A series of twelve LPs, one for each sign of the Zodiac, produced by Vini Poncia and the label’s chief engineer, Peter Rosen, featuring the voice of British clairvoyant and astrologer Maurice Woodruff. Woodruff was the “fortune teller to the stars” in the UK during the 1950s and ’60s. (Clients included Peter Sellers and members of the royal family.) This series was an attempt to reach the large audience interested in astrology which had developed during the “hippie” era. (Elektra Records 1967 LP, “Zodiac: Cosmic Sounds” was the first best-seller during the craze.) The twelve albums, numbered 3001-3012, each featured original background music composed by the Map City staff: Peter Anders and/or Vini Poncia, members of the touring lineup of The Tradewinds (Jimmy Calvert and Paulie Naumann), and members of the label’s first signing, Rhode Island band The Blue Jays (Dick Domane and Johnny Vastano). Sales were brief but brisk helping the label to stay afloat during the early days.
