PETER ANDERS
1978
This Is Love b/w It’s Beautiful (GIP Holland 36603)

This is possibly the rarest Anders & Poncia-related release. These two sides were released only in Holland on the GIP label. They are unreleased recordings from the 20th Century sessions which had resulted in Peter’s remake of “Mind Excursion” produced by Neil Merryweather for an album which never materialized. At the time, Neil and Peter were in talks with the Dutch coypright holders of “The Smurfs” animated children’s TV series to provide music for a feature length movie which also never materialized. But we are left with this historic record which is the last release as an artist from Anders & Poncia’s initial run. Their next release would not be until 2010 when they reunited to work on Peter’s comeback album, “So Far”.

BRIAN GARI (with Peter Anders)
The Very Best of Brian Gari
(EM Records 1011)

In the late 1990s, Peter did some recording with New York singer-songwriter Brian Gari which included Peter singing Brian’s song “I May Be Wrong” as well as modernized takes on two of Peter’s classics, “Stumble and Fall” (originally by Darlene Love) and “Marryin’ Kind of Love” (originally done by The Critters). Brian’s song as well as “Marryin’ Kind of Love” were released as bonus tracks on Brian’s “Very Best of…” compilation. “I May Be Wrong” also appeared Brian’s 2010 release “He’s An Old Cat.” Peter’s take on “Stumble and Fall” remains unreleased.

ANDERS ‘N’ PONCIA: Pop Works (BMG Japan CD) 2003

Although out-of-print, this double CD is worth mentioning because it gathered together all important Anders & Poncia work for Buddah/Kama Sutra. Disc one had The Tradewinds and The Innocence albums in their entirety and disc two gathered together all the non-LP sides Peter and Vini recorded as well as rare tracks they wrote and/or produced (now reissued as the single disc below, “Rarities”). If you can find a used copy, it will save you money. The current availability requires the purchase of three CDs instead of two… (see next 3 entries)

DISCLAIMERS

THE VIDELS
The following records by groups named “The Videls” are often thought to be part of the Anders & Poncia oeuvre, but are in no way associated with Pete and Vini nor with Rhode Island’s own Videls:

1959
Blow Winds Blow b/w I Wish (Early 702)
A black doo-wop group out of Cincinnati, Ohio.

1963
It’s All Over b/w We Belong Together (Musicnote 117)
Actually The Chimes, friends of our Videls, either misnamed on the label or in some kind of a legal maneuver. To further confuse the matter, these tracks appear on a reissue compilation CD called “The Chimes Meet The Videls”! We’re trying to get to the bottom of this mystery.

1964
Ya Ya b/w Walking Down Your Street (Fargo 1062)
A white vocal group from upstate New York from the label that brought you The Aquatones.

BONNIE & THE TREASURES
The following Phil Spector-related release is often assumed to be Cher backed by Anders and Poncia as
A) they were working with Spector at the time,
B) they’d recorded for him as “The Treasures”, and
C) they’d written and produced Cher’s debut record for him under the the name “Bonnie Jo Mason”.
Strangely enough, there is no involvement by Cher, Pete nor Vini. Nor is it Ronnie Spector in disguise as another legend has it!

1965
Home Of The Brave b/w Our Song (Phi-Dan 5005)
“Bonnie” is a woman named Charlotte O’Hara and the sides were produced by Spector protege, Jerry Riopelle.
